Plastbau Saudi Arabia is a joint venture formed in 2005 between Plastbau Holdings BSC (c), a Bahrain-registered investment company, Advanced Projects and Building Systems Ltd, and the Saudi Offset Limited Partnership (SOLP).  Plastbau Saudi Arabia will manufacture and distribute the Plastbau System in Saudi Arabia.

General Manager Engineer Mohammed Al-Issa has been directing the construction of the manufacturing plant, which will be commissioned in Dammam Industrial City in first quarter 2006.  Marketing for the manufactured Plastbau®  components is currently underway in the Dammam region.

The “Plastbau® System” uses prefabricated wall/floor/roof/partition panels made of expanded polystyrene and reinforced by integral steel bars.  The panels are manufactured  by custom-built Plastedil SA high tech machinery.  The Plastbau® system for construction offers excellent heat and sound insulation, reduced construction costs, reduced total weight of building, and flexibility for many types of finishes.

The Plastbau® system leads to substantial savings in initial capital costs and subsequent operating/maintenance costs.  It conforms to the safety and environmental standards of most European countries and has been used in large buildings, such as luxury hotels, office buildings, apartment complexes, and schools, in Europe. The Plastbau® system substantially reduces air-conditioning and power costs.

A model office building was completed in Al-Khobar to prove out the cost and time savings possible using the Plastbau®.

  • Partners: Advanced Projects and Building Systems Ltd. led by Mr. Tariq al Kassabi, the Saudi Offset Limited Partnership, and Plastbau Holdings B.S.C. (c).
  • Estimated project cost: US$ 10 million per plant.  Multiple plants are planned in Saudi Arabia and other countries in the Middle East.
