Arabian Shrimp Company Ltd.
Michael Stirnberg, General Manager, ran the first farm in the Middle East to produce shrimp in full-strength sea water at Oman International Shrimp Company SAOC, a joint venture between DevCorp International, Shanfari Group of Companies, and Sea Farms International. He previously worked as a consultant on environmental policies in Ecuador as part of a World Bank Project while owning and running his company AQUA-TECH S.A. in El Oro, Ecuador. Mr. Stirnberg has farmed both shrimp and tilapia in Ecuador. He also engaged in extensive research on mangrove ecosystems, sustainable shrimp aquaculture, and animal husbandry in Ecuador, Malaysia, and Thailand. Mr. Stirnberg received his Master of Science in Agriculture from the Technical University of Berlin and his Bachelor’s of Science in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Kassel, Faculty of Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture. Fernando Castro Talero, Hatchery Manager, came to AquaFarms BSC (c) and Arabian Shrimp Company from Dolarakis Shrimp Farm, where he was Production Manager. He implemented and managed the maturation and larviculture facility for Metapenaeus japonicus shrimp. He was a pioneer in the hatchery industry in Ecuador, working on the early hatchery projects and owning and managing the third Ecuador hatchery, EMAGRO Cia Ltd., for 22 years. He has worked with the gravid female shrimp and the maturation and larviculture of many species: P.vannamei, P.stylirostris, P.schmitti, M. japonicus and P. kerathurus shrimp and now P. indicus. Mr. Castro holds a Bachelor of Science degree in “Environmental Technology/Option Aquaculture” from the Florida Institute of Technology. Milind Godbole, Project Development and Planning Manager, most recently worked on the development of shrimp project in Oman for Oman International Shrimp Company SAOC. Mr. Godbole worked extensively in the field of project development, engineering and management. He served as Project Development Manager with Shanfari Group of Companies in Muscat and as senior engineer with M. N. Dastur & Company Ltd, a leading engineering consultancy firm in India. He received his Bachelor of Engineering from M. S. University of Baroda with Three Gold Medals. He qualified with a Diploma in Finance (ICFAI, Hyderabad) and is ISO9001 certified in internal auditing (IIQM, Banglore). Labib A. Al Azzeh, Administration and Human Resources Manager, brings 40 years of administrative and start-up experience in Saudi Arabia to the ASCO team. In his work with Mansour- General Dynamics Ltd. (MGDL), Blount International Ltd., and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (PTT) he advised and consulted with management on labor, legal, and business affairs. He has been closely involved in opening new offices, supervising estimates and tenders, overseeing technical and contract translations, rapidly deploying new hires to perform specified projects, and assisting overall business development and relationships. Mr. Al Azzeh has an MA in Business Administration from the University of Beverly Hills. Laurence Evans, Training and Environmental Issues Manager, Aquafarms Consultant, is a technical and production expert in shrimp mariculture, specialized in ASCO's target culture species, Fenneropenaeus indicus, the Indian white shrimp. He has used his technical, training and management skills in the maturation, hatchery production, growout production, feed formulation and processing (HACCP) of this species since his involvement with shrimp mariculture began in 1989. He has also worked with Penaeus monodon, Penaeus japonicus and Fenneropenaeus merguiensis. Mr. Evans has a BSc in marine biology and has worked on shrimp aquaculture in South Africa, Iran and Papua, New Guinea.
